Snakeoff's Quest
Snakeoff's Quest — a peddler in a red coat on the road into Tonicton at dusk, a great serpent coiled against the sunset behind the town.

You are a snake oil peddler in OG Pokemon, with Diablo loot instead of monster catching.

Free. No account, no download, nothing to buy. Works on a phone.

Tonicton is a small town with five holes in the ground near it. Each one goes down two floors, and something at the bottom is holding the stairs.

You walk down, you kill things, and you come back up carrying more than you left with. Then you sell it, or you wear it, or you hand it to Lady Fortuna and let her decide. Every piece of gear is rolled rather than placed — a base type, a few affixes, and the strongest one gives the thing its name. That is where Boots of Dousing and Ring of Avarice come from. Nobody wrote those. The game made them on the way up.

Eleven legendaries exist. They do not make your numbers bigger; they change what you are allowed to do. Crits that heal you. A guard that blocks twice. A coin that cannot land badly.

Beat the Spirekeeper at the bottom of the Shattered Spire and the Watch opens behind it. That is the endgame, and it is free on the web.

Five depths, twenty species

Each depth has three wild species and a master that holds the stairs down. Everything has a weakness, and finding it is most of every fight.

The bag screen, comparing a Sword of Storms against the equipped Axe of Embers
Every drop compares itself to what you are wearing.
Spirekeeper Voltaic, the fifth boss, bars the way
